What’s happening
This week, seven colleagues from our Boston team travel to Botswana to take part in the Mashatu Land of the Giants cycling event. It’s a rare chance to ride through a world-class wildlife reserve, and the event is hosted by Stephen Lansdown, Mashatu Game Reserve’s majority owner and a passionate conservationist.
About Mashatu Game Reserve
Mashatu Game Reserve covers 42,000 hectares in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve in Botswana. It sits in the country’s far east, where the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers meet. The landscape ranges from wide plains to riverine forest, rugged hills and ancient ridges, creating an impressive variety of habitats for wildlife.
The Reserve is nicknamed the “Land of the Giants”, a nod to the towering Mashatu trees. It’s also known for extraordinary wildlife, including the largest herds of elephants on private land in Africa and standout big cat sightings, including leopard, lion and cheetah among them.
The ride
Across three days, riders will cover around 120–180 km on trails that run through Mashatu’s spectacular terrain. It’s a true safari ride – routes pass through areas shared with elephants and big cats, making it a powerful reminder that we’re visitors in their home.
Why it matters
Land of the Giants is organised by Mashatu Game Reserve to support the Tuli Conservation Trust. The goal is to raise awareness and fund practical conservation work in the region including support for the Anti-Poaching Team. The Trust’s annual fundraising target is 1 million Botswana Pula, helping protect wildlife and preserve Botswana’s natural heritage.
For our team, this is about more than the kilometres. It’s a chance to back important work on the ground, recognise the people protecting the Reserve, and come together around a shared purpose.
