Please can you give us an overview of your career.
After studying Accountancy at The University in Liverpool, I came to the Isle of Man in 2004 “for a few months” to visit family. At the time I didn’t know much about the island but quickly came to love it here. After working in the Banking Sector for four years, I joined IQE (formerly Simcocks Trust) as an Accountant and studied towards qualifications with ACCA and, subsequently, with the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Up to the point that IQE was acquired by Boston in 2020, I was responsible for the management of the administration, accounting, tax and finance functions within the business.
Following the acquisition of IQE, I joined Boston as Head of Accounting and Tax; and, in 2021, I was invited to join the Board of Boston.
Where is the most interesting place you have travelled to for work and why?
I never seem to have enough time to really explore places when travelling for work, but I have to say that I really enjoyed Budapest and was due to return on holiday before COVID struck!
What’s the one gadget you couldn’t live without?
My phone…or the Audible app to be more precise. Whether I’m driving in the car or walking the dog, I’ve always got a book or podcast on the go.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The variety of work and the challenge of keeping up with constant changes in the industry. Also, the people – I think working from home has its place, but COVID has certainly given me a new appreciation for that face to face contact with colleagues, clients and everyone else we work with!
What was the last TV series you watched?
I don’t actually watch much TV although I loved the Beatles: Get Back documentary.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you?
Outside of work I do a bit of boxing. It’s great exercise and a brilliant way to work out any stress!
What’s your motto or personal mantra?
“Vita non est vivere sed valere vita est”……one for google translate, if you are interested.
What are you most proud of?
My family.
