A remarkable weekend of determination, community spirit, and sporting success saw Boston colleagues take on some tough physical challenges both on and off the Island. From battling mud-covered obstacle courses in support of charity to completing a prestigious international marathon, they demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and commitment every step of the way.

Taking on the Tough Mucka Challenge

On Sunday, a group of Boston colleagues took part in the rescheduled Tough Mucka event in support of Isle Listen, the Isle of Man charity dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

The demanding course tested participants with mud-filled obstacles, steep climbs, and physically challenging terrain. Undeterred, Team Boston tackled the challenge with enthusiasm, determination, and plenty of good humour, crossing the finish line with a tremendous sense of achievement while raising awareness for an important local cause.

By taking part, the team helped support Isle Listen’s vital work in schools and communities across the Island, ensuring children and young people have access to the mental health support they need. Events such as Tough Mucka not only promote physical fitness and personal achievement but also shine a spotlight on organisations making a meaningful difference within our community.

Supporting a Cherished Community Event

At the same time, Boston colleagues Dave Brew and Steven Quirk joined fellow runners and walkers in the annual Gordy Brew Western 10 Road Race and Julie Brew Memorial Walk.

A longstanding and much-loved fixture in the Isle of Man calendar, the event brings people together in a spirit of remembrance, support, and community participation. Boston was also proud to sponsor a spot prize for each race.

As Julie Brew’s birthday fell on the 22nd, a special prize was awarded to the participants who finished in 22nd place in both the race and the walk, adding an extra meaningful and personal touch to the day.

This year’s chosen charity for the Memorial Walk was Motiv8 Addiction Services, a local organisation dedicated to supporting individuals affected by addiction, from alcohol and substance misuse, to gambling and gaming-related issues. Through its work, Motiv8 provides essential services and guidance to those seeking support on their recovery journey. Dave and Steven were able to raise £385 from their colleagues at Boston to go towards this worthwhile charity.

Even more impressively, Dave and Steven managed to get through the day successfully dodging any photographs!

Marathon Success in Cologne

Adding to an already impressive weekend of sporting achievements, Stephen Wilson travelled to Germany to take part in the renowned Cologne Marathon.

Competing in one of Europe’s most popular marathon events, Stephen successfully crossed the finish line despite having undertaken little training, making his achievement all the more impressive.

Reflecting on the experience, Stephen said:

“It was a long and difficult day, but an amazing experience from start to finish. Running through the city offered a unique way to see Cologne, while the incredible support from spectators along the entire route helped carry me to the finish line.

Resisting the temptations of a German weekend in October was almost as challenging as the marathon itself. Sharing the experience with over 30,000 runners made it even more special, and it’s a day I’ll never forget.”

His accomplishment highlights the dedication, perseverance and mental strength required to complete such a demanding endurance challenge.

Congratulations to Team Boston

We are incredibly proud of all our colleagues who took part in their respective events over the weekend. Whether competing in challenging races, supporting charitable causes, representing Boston in the community, or achieving personal sporting milestones, each participant embodied the values of teamwork, commitment and community spirit that are so important to Boston.

Congratulations to everyone involved on their fantastic achievements. Your efforts have demonstrated that success is not measured solely by crossing a finish line, but also by the positive impact made along the way.
